چکیده

Tomato production in the Mediterranean region and elsewhere is under constant threat of the whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses that cause Tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD). Sequencing has indicated that the generic ‘TYLCV’ includes a large number of viruses and strains. We studied the distribution of the tomato yellow leaf curl disease-associated viruses in Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon. Two simple and reliable multiplex PCR protocols (mPCR) were developed that allowed the detection of Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) and Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus (TYLCSV) species, in addition to Tomato yellow leaf curl virus-Mild (TYLCV-Mld) strain. PCR products were sequenced to confirm their identity. The fulllength genomes were also sequenced of TYLCV from Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon, TYLCV-Mld strain from Jordan and Lebanon, and Tomato yellow leaf curl Sardinia virus-Sicily from Israel. This is the first time that TYLCSV-Sic has been detected in Israel and Jordan, and the first report of TYLCV-Mld strain from Egypt and Lebanon.

Recessive Resistance Derived from Tomato cv. Tyking-Limits Drastically the Spread of Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus

The tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD) causes severe damage to tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) crops throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. TYLCD is associated with a complex of single-stranded circular DNA plant viruses of the genus Begomovirus (family Geminiviridae) transmitted by the whitefy Bemisia tabaci Gennadius (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae). The tomato inbred line TX...

Pyramiding of genes conferring resistance to Tomato yellow leaf curl virus from different wild tomato species

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) production in tropical and subtropical regions of the world is limited by the endemic presence of Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV). Breeding programmes aimed at producing TYLCV-resistant tomato cultivars have utilized resistance sources derived from wild tomato species. So far, all reported breeding programmes have introgressed TYLCV resistance from a single w...

Resistance to Tomato yellow leaf curl virus accumulation in the tomato wild relative Solanum habrochaites associated with the C4 viral protein.

Tomato yellow leaf curl disease (TYLCD) is a severe threat to tomato crops worldwide and is caused by Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) and several other begomoviruses (genus Begomovirus, family Geminiviridae). Host plant resistance is the best TYLCD control method but limited sources of resistance are available. In this study, two Solanum habrochaites TYLCD-resistance sources, EELM-388 and...

Tomato Breeding Lines Resistant and Tolerant to Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus Issued from Lycopersicon hirsutum.

ABSTRACT Two tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV)-resistant plants from accessions LA1777 and LA386 of the wild tomato species Lycopersicon hirsutum have been crossed. The resulting resistant F1 plants were crossed with the domesticated tomato L. esculentum, and a series of selfing was performed. At each generation, individuals were selected for resistance (no symptoms and undetectable viral D...

International Networks to Deal with Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Disease: the Middle East Regional Cooperation Program

The Middle East is a major producer of both processing and fresh market tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum); and tomatoes are a main component of the local cuisines. Since Tomato yellow leaf curl disease was first reported in Israel in the early 1950s, it has become one of the major, if not the most important, constraint to production (see historical perspective in Part I, Chapter 1). This disease ...
